Some KY Farmers May Have Discrimination Claims
Female or Hispanic farmers or ranchers who believe they were improperly denied farm loan benefits may be eligible to apply for compensation.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture announced the program with the Justice Department earlier this year. It provides up to $50,000 for each Hispanic or female farmer who can show that USDA denied them a loan or loan servicing for discriminatory reasons for certain time periods between 1981 and 2000.
The Kentucky Farm Service Agency says local service centers can provide additional information. To receive a claims package, contact (888) 508-4429 or visit http://www.farmerclaims.gov . Claimants have until Aug. 25 to register to receive a claims package.
