By the end of this week, we could know who the next leader will be for the Jackson-Madison County School District. Monday evening, the superintendent interview process kicked off with Dr. James Browder. He most recently served as Senior Vice President of Operations at Edison State College in Ft. Myers, Fla. He had previously retired as superintendent from the Lee County School District, also in Ft. Myers. Browder worked for one year at Edison State College and seven and a half years for Lee County. Browder told the school board that he left the college level because he realized he is a kindergarten through 12th grade educator. Also, Monday, Thomas “Buddy” White interviewed with the Jackson-Madison County School Board. White is the current Director of Operations and Financial Planning for the JMC District and has been named by the board as interim superintendent during the search process. White says he has been with the district for most his career and believes due to his extensive knowledge of the area and the district, he is the right choice. He will take over interim superintendent duties, Friday. Tuesday, Dr. Beth Wright of Lake City, S.C. and Terrance Martin of Des Moines, Iowa will be interviewed. Wednesday, Dr. Damon Cathey of Kingsport, Tenn. and Dr. Craig Fiegel of Plymouth, Mich. will have their turns. The interviews are open to the public and begin at 5:30 p.m. at the Central Office on North Parkway.
