Zambito Honored at Reception
Jackson Madison County School System Superintendent Nancy Zambito was honored, Monday, by community members as she marks the end to her five years of service. It took Zambito about an hour just to shake hands with well over a hundred people who came to recognize her. One of the things she says she is most proud of is the board’s elimination of intermediate schools. As she leaves her chair behind, she said she wants the community to carry on her vision for the system. That includes sending all students to college that choose to go, through the new Madison Achieves Program. “We’ve got first generation college students. Do you know what happens then? Their children go to college, and their children go to college, and their children go to college. So, it’s as far as I’m concerned the most important thing we’ve done in years,” said Zambito. In a short ceremony during the reception, City Mayor Jerry Gist and County Mayor Jimmy Harris declared Monday, June, 2011, Dr. Nancy Zambito Day.
