Tuesday night, country music star and Hardin County native, Darryl Worley made a stop in the Hub City and he brought along a few friends. Worley held his annual Darryl Worley and Friends Songwriters in the Round at Bumpus Harley Davidson. Guests were treated to intimate, acoustic performances by Worley and three of country music’s most well known songwriters, Steve Leslie, Jim “Moose” Brown and Wynn Varble. Leslie has written 20 Worley songs, including “Second Wind,” “Back Where I Belong” and “Tennessee River Run.” Additionally, Leslie has had songs recorded by Kenny Rogers, George Strait, Neal McCoy, Rhonda Vincent and Mark Chesnutt. Brown is a Grammy-winning songwriter and Grammy-nominated producer and studio musician. He has played piano and keyboards for more than 20 number-one records for artists including Worley, Brad Paisley, Trace Adkins, Marty Stuart, Ricky Skaggs, Blake Shelton, Hank Williams Jr. and many others. He co-produced the critically acclaimed album “That Lonesome Song” by Jamey Johnson and Worley‘s “Sounds Like Life To Me.” Brown co-wrote the number-one hit that topped the chart for eight weeks, “It’s Five O’clock Somewhere” by Alan Jackson and Jimmy Buffett and the top-10 hit for Worley “If Something Should Happen.” Brown played electric guitar and keyboards in the 2006-07 Face the Promise Tour as a member of the Silver Bullet Band with the legendary Bob Seger. Varble wrote the number-one song “Have You Forgotten” with Worley. He also co-wrote “Waitin‘ on a Woman,” recorded by Paisley, and “A Little More Country Than That.” Varble’s songs have been cut by a variety of other artists, also, including Garth Brooks, Lee Ann Womack, Montgomery Gentry, Jason Sellers, Gary Allan, Trace Adkins, Clint Daniels, Kevin Denney, Tracy Byrd, The Kinleys, Chris LeDoux, Danni Leigh, Mark Chesnutt and Sammy Kershaw. He recently received acclaim for his own performances when he was a top-four finalist on CMT‘s Next Superstar. Worley says the evening’s performers were all part of the original group who kicked off this fundraising event several years ago. “We wanted to sort of put that back together for the Jackson homecoming this year,” said Worley. “It’s a great way to entertain a crowd of people and we raise a lot of money doing this for a great cause.” In May a similar benefit in Memphis raised $33,000. All of the money raised benefits the Darryl Worley Foundation. Also coming up, Worley’s 10th Annual Tennessee River Run set for September, featuring guests Kansas and Montgomery Gentry. Tickets go on sale Friday at the Foundation office in Savannah and online at www.ticketfly.com.
