THP Plans Saturation Patrols

The Tennessee Highway Patrol says there will be saturation patrols along with sobriety and driver license checkpoints across the state this holiday weekend.

AAA estimates there will be 619,500 Tennesseans on the road over the long period.

The state had 1,031 traffic fatalities in 2010 and 15 during the July 4 holiday. There have been 429 so far this year.

To help traffic flow, all construction-related lane closures will be suspended during the weekend. However, motorists will still face the dreaded orange-and-white barrels signaling long-term closures on some projects.

Authorities also will be on the lookout for drunken boaters and other violators on Tennessee’s plentiful waterways.
