Blind Library Honored
Gov. Bill Haslam and other state officials will commemorate the 80th anniversary Wednesday of the National Library Service for the Blind & Physically Handicapped.
Tennessee’s Library for the Blind & Physically Handicapped opened in 1971. There are almost 7,900 Tennesseans who are registered users of the library; according to a news release from the state, they have borrowed more than 180,000 books in the last nine months alone.
Local library patrons will join the ceremony Wednesday. President Herbert Hoover created the national service.
