Shooting Suspect Planned Massacre
Authorities have charged a 22-year-old man with first-degree murder in the shootings of a Memphis police officer and another man.
A criminal court affidavit shows Alexander Haydel was charged Tuesday in the deaths of Officer Timothy Warren and Arthur Warren, who are not believed to be related.
The document shows that Haydel and his wife were visiting Memphis from Cleveland, Miss., when they got into an argument on Beale Street on Sunday. Authorities say Arthur Warren – the woman’s ex-husband – intervened, and Haydel later confronted him at the nearby Doubletree Hotel.
Haydel then shot Arthur Warren during a fight and later shot the officer as he responded to the scene.
Haydel is being held at a Shelby County jail. Records do not indicate whether he has a lawyer.
