Hot Lawnmower Ignites Fire
Investigators said the explosion and fire that destroyed a pool house in northwest Madison County, Wednesday was ignited by a hot lawnmower. The Madison County Fire Chief said the lawnmower was used and then immediately parked in the storage portion of the pool house. Fire fighters said it is not unusual for this to happen and that is why it is so important to allow your lawnmower to cool down before storing it. “Often times, just the radiant heat off of the motor or the muffler itself, when it is parked close to combustibles can ignite it even though it maybe as far as three to four feet away,” said Wayne Arnold, fire marshal with the Jackson Fire Department. Those combustibles can be thins such as water heaters, pool chemicals and gas cans.
