Principal Jimmy Arnold Announces Retirement

After almost a half century working as an educator, South Side High School principal Jimmy Arnold said he is retiring. Thursday evening, Principal Arnold let his teachers and staff members know through email that he will not return this fall. He told ABC 7 Eyewitness News he has been wrestling with the decision for some time and has decided though de does not want to, to hang up his hat as leader at South Side. He said he officially turned in his retirement request at the central office early Friday. “50 years have gone by and I would like to do another 50, really,” said Principal Jimmy Arnold. “I can never remember getting up and not looking forward to going to work each day.” Arnold said he has spent the last 18 years at South Side. Before that, he spent 27 years at Malesus School. Arnold will officially leave the district at the end of the month. He said he hopes to spend time with his grandchildren and riding his tractors.
