Snake Blamed for Widespread Power Outage
Many JEA customers were in the dark Friday night after several areas of the city and Madison County were left without power. According to a spokesperson with JEA, a snake got into a substation and shorted out power to customers for both JEA and Southwest Electric systems. Reports indicate power was cut to more than 6,000 JEA customers and 4,000 Southwest Electric customers. Areas affected included north Jackson, The Medical Center, south Jackson and west Madison County. Power was eventually restored to all customers.
