Lawmaker Accused Of Carving Desk

A state representative from Lenoir City says she carved her initials into her desk in the House chamber but said she doesn’t understand why that’s news.

WSMV-TV in Nashville first reported the initials J.C.H. had been carved into the desk that the Republican Rep. Julia Hurley occupies at the state Capitol.

Hurley told The Knoxville News Sentinel that she cut her initials into the desk as she and other House members waited for the state Senate to adjourn in a late-night session in May.

Hurley said she doesn’t remember what she used to carve her initials and told the newspaper on Monday that she wasn’t thinking straight.
