School Board Votes on Supt. Candidates
Monday evening, the Jackson-Madison County School Board cast two very important votes, one for each of the finalists in the search for a new superintendent. In each case, the candidate needed at least six votes to return for a site visit. And both candidates fell short. Three board members vote in favor of Terrence Martin returning, while only one member voted in favor of Dr. Beth Wright making a return visit. This means the search for a new superintendent must start from scratch. But it will not cost the district any more money. The cost of a second search was already factored into the fee by search firm BWP & Associates. But it could take a lot longer. The district was warned this time of year is not when most candidates are available. “We knew going in that this period of time would be difficult to find a candidate because most people have already signed a contract,” said Bob Alvey, Chairman of the School Board. “But at the same time, the board felt it was important [to try] if we could find a superintendent and get them in place as quickly as we could.” Currently, Director of Operations and Financial Planning and one-time superintendent candidate Thomas “Buddy” White is filling in as interim leader of the district. Students return to class on August 2.
