Carl Perkins Center Receives Walmart Grant
The Walmart Foundation presented a big gift to the Exchange Club-Carl Perkins Center for the Prevention of Child Abuse, Wednesday. At the Walmart in south Jackson, foundation representatives presented the center with a grant for $40,000. The grant is part of Walmart’s “State Giving Program.” Leaders with the program say in the past the number of non-profit groups applying for the grant had been low. But recently, the numbers have been up. That has allowed the foundation to help groups like the Carl Perkins Center. “Recently, we’ve given the largest donation in West Tennessee, well over $100,000 during the last two years,” said Russell Steiner, Market Manager of Walmart. “And it’s largely because he have a lot more organizations applying. The Carl Perkins Center says the grant money will be used to fund already established programs and services for the children it serves.
