Crockett County Man Dies from Heat

The summer heat is to blame for the death of an elderly Crockett County man on Tuesday evening. Sheriff Troy Klyce says Jim Davis, 85, and Hint Talley, 70, were riding on their property on a golf cart Tuesday afternoon and got stuck after hitting a tree stump. “Mr. Jim Davis decided he’d go ahead and walk down and talk to the logger. In the mean time, Mr. Hint was going to get the golf car unhung,” said Sheriff Klyce. The report shows Davis couldn’t make it back due to the heat and rough terrain. He instead called his wife for help. She too drove out and became overwhelmed by the heat. They spent the night there under a tree until loggers found them Wednesday morning. Meanwhile, Talley, who stayed with the golf cart, suffered a heat stroke and was dead when he was found Wednesday, according to deputies. Davis and his wife were dehydrated when emergency officials got to them and were taken to a local hospital. Davis has since returned home. His wife is recovering at Humboldt Hospital.
