UT Ag Center Readies for Summer Celebration
For more than two decades, lawn enthusiasts, gardeners and flower lovers have flocked to Summer Celebration at the UT Agricultural Extension Center. Thursday, the annual event will kick off once again. Various activities are scheduled for the “Summer Celebration Lawn and Garden Show,” including 16 garden talks, a diverse plant sale and cooking demonstrations by the UT Kitchen Divas. Also planned, in connection with this year’s theme “Come Check the Mail,” are an array of mailboxes and ornamental plantings. “The mailbox gardens are trying to imitate real life,” said Ginger Rowsey with the UT Ag Center.” We don’t all have brand new mail boxes. So the mailboxes have fun the gambit from elegant to rustic and kind of beat up.” Rowsey adds visitors will see a wide array of mailboxes and how you can make them all look good. Plants to be sold during the show include hydrangeas, ferns, flowering trees, elms and additional shrubs and perennials. Admission to the show is $5. It runs from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m., Thursday.
