ACLU Suing TN School District
The Sumner County Board of Education is expected to change some of its policies following accusations of promoting Christianity.
The changes are in response to a May lawsuit filed by the American Civil Liberties Union of Tennessee on behalf of nine anonymous students from four families.
They allege the district has a widespread, unconstitutional pattern and practice of religious activities in schools.
Wesley Southerland is an attorney with the religious nonprofit American Center for Law and Justice, which is defending the school board in the case.
He told The Tennessean that the revisions are not a compromise with the ACLU, but simply a clarification of policies and procedures.
