Riley Ward had only one day to hang out with his friends before he was forced to recall his near death experience. Although Ward does not remember much about the hit and run, his friends remember every detail. “We were crossing the road. He came by and he squealed. He came around toward us and we all just got back and Riley was still there. He just plowed him,” said Travis Bransfield, Ward’s friend. Christopher Adam Purvis, 18, of Dyersburg, posted a $50,000 bond, April 8, just one day after he allegedly ran Ward over with his Jeep. On Friday, Ward and a friend were sworn in along with a Dyersburg police officer and Purvis’ ex-girlfriend to testify in his preliminary hearing. Riley explained to the judge that he couldn’t remember much about that evening, but Ward’s friend and Purvis’ ex did. They both said Purvis was leaving the parking lot, until he suddenly got angry and ran Ward over. During the testimony, Ward said only one word would come to mind. “Anger, because I lost my whole summer because of one guy. I don’t have half of my skull because of one guy,” added Ward. The judge dropped one charge for Purvis failing to have proof of insurance, but bound his attempted first degree murder charge and leaving the scene of an accident to the grand jury. “I liked that they didn’t let it down from first degree murder, ” added Ward.
