New Students Must Have TN Immunization Certificate
In less than two weeks, thousand of students in Jackson-Madison County and across West Tennessee will head back to the classroom. But before they can start, a visit to the doctor may be required. Every new student, whether they are starting school or a first time student in Tennessee must have a certificate showing they have had shots to prevent diseases such as hepatitis B, polio, mumps, measles and chicken pox which can spread easily in a school setting. “Immunizations work to prevent some very serious dangerous life-threatening brain destroying illnesses, many of which are only years or decades gone,” said Dr. Laurence Martin of Jackson Pediatric Center. Older students are also required to get periodic booster shoots. Just check with your doctor to make sure your student is up-to-date. Also, talk to your doctor if you are unable to afford the immunizations. There are programs available to help.
