The city of Trenton is clean and green and is being recognized for its efforts. Tuesday, Trenton received a “Greengooroos Award” for reaching it s goal in reducing waste through recycling. The city’s recycling program kicked off in November of 2009 and since the participation by customers throughout the city has helped lessen the amount of waste going into the landfill, which provides extra money for the city. I feel like in the future the state of Tennessee is going to tell us that we are gonna be recycling, that we aren’t going to have any choice in it,’ said Trenton Mayor Tony Burriss. “So I think that if people get started on the mindset right now of recycling, I think it would be better for everybody in the future.” City leaders said Trenton has achieved a more than 25 percent reduction in the amount of landfill waste. Trenton is also considered a leader in the area when it comes to recycling efforts.
