KY Jobless Numbers Improve
Kentucky’s jobless rate has fallen slightly in the latest accounting from the Office of Employment and Training, the state agency that monitors employment trends.
Labor market analyst Justine Detzel said Friday that the jobless rate fell to 9.6 percent in June, down from 9.8 percent a month ago.
Detzel attributed the decline partially to economic recovery and partially to discouraged workers who have given up on the search for jobs.
Five of Kentucky’s major job sectors reported employment increases. Five reported decreases.
Kentucky’s manufacturing sector led the gains, adding some 1,200 jobs between May and June. The leisure and hospitality sector added 1,100 jobs. The trade, transportation and utilities sector added 1,000 positions. The construction sector added 400 jobs. And mining and logging added 100 jobs.
