Real Estate Agencies Review Safety Practices

Following the alarming attack on a real estate agent on Wednesday, local Realtors are reminded of the risks that can come along with their jobs. Agents say their careers can sometimes put them in compromising situations since they often work one-on-one with clients they don’t know very well. They are also in a business where they keep high profiles with their pictures and phone numbers advertised all over town. Many agencies say they implement safety systems so they know where their Realtors are at all times and who they’re working with. However sometimes closing the sale can be a distraction from the standard safety practices. “You really want to make that client happy. You want to pick up a potential buyers so they might make a decision to go ahead and view that property even at some risk involved,” said broker manager Justin K. Beavers. Agents also tell us they have a system set up that allows the Realtor to call back to the office and say a certain “code word,” if they feel in danger and let them know something is wrong.
