Pilot Dies In Crop Duster Crash
The pilot of crop duster was killed when his plane crashed in Leflore County.
Sheriff Ricky Banks tells the Greenwood Commonwealth that the crash occurred Tuesday in a remote field near Minter City.in northwest Leflore County.
Banks said the pilot has been identified as 60-year-old Gene McCreary of Cleveland. The sheriff says McCreary was employed by Sturdivant Brothers Flying Service of Sunnyside.
Sykes Sturdivant, who runs the flying service, says McCreary was a “very experienced pilot” with between 25,000 and 30,000 hours of agricultural flying experience.
Sturdivant said McCreary at one time owned his own flying service in Rosedale.
Deputy Leflore County Coroner Will Gnemi said the body was being taken to Jackson for an autopsy.
Banks said the investigation was continuing.
