Corinth Animal Shelter Closing

Leaders with the Corinth/Alcorn County Humane Society say they will be closing their doors, effective July 31. “This building is simply not safe for either us or the animals,” said director Katherine Gardner. “It’s 125 years old. The roof is caving in, there are electrical problems, it is falling apart,” Gardner tells ABC 7 Eyewitness News. The non-profit group has been using the county-owned facility for several years now. Prior to becoming an animal shelter, the building was a low-income nursing care facility, leaders said. Currently, there are 82 dogs and cats being housed inside the shelter. Officials are hoping to adopt all of the animals out before the July 31 deadline. Officials said any animals not adopted will be turned over to regional rescue teams for placement.
