Reelfoot Begins Ad Blitz
Reelfoot Lake and its sunsets are getting a tourism push.
The town of Samburg has sponsored a billboard off Interstate 55 in Missouri between Sikeston and Hayti. It features a sunset image of the lake with the slogan “See the sunsets on beautiful Reelfoot Lake!”
According to the Union City Daily Messenger, Samburg has separated from the Reelfoot Lake Tourism Council and instead uses its hotel/motel tax revenues to begin its own tourism campaign.
The 18,000-acre lake was created at least partly by the New Madrid earthquakes of 1811-12. It is especially known for its American bald eagles.
