Fugitive Caught in Henderson County Living Under False Identity

Henderson County Deputies have discovered a man they arrested for a car theft on Monday is not who he originally told them he was. The man who claimed to be Dewayne Bobby Jones was arrested for stealing a car. After much questioning they discovered his real name is Buddy Dewayne Stewart. He is wanted in Alabama for a long list of charges. “We’ve seen people try to pass themselves off as a different person on a traffic stop or something like that trying to get out of whatever it was that they’re into but on this actual scale…this is my first,” said Sheriff Brian Duke. Stewart’s own wife said she did not even know his secrets when she married him three years ago, and this is all coming as a shock. Another woman, who is the mother of his two-year-old son said she now has to change her child’s last name, since his current one is an alias. She says the man was very slick with his lies and she never saw this coming. “I mean there was some stuff but nothing that would lead you to suspect this,” said Brandi Rogers. Stewart remains in jail with a $10,000 bond facing charges for theft over $1,000 and burglary of a vehicle. Identity fraud charges are still pending.
