Covington Woman Arrested in Gambling Raid

A Covington woman is free on a $5,000 bond after deputies said they found an illegal gambling operation in the back of her business. Tuesday, Linda Carol Mathis, 53, was formally charged with aggravated promotion of gambling. Deputies arrested her, Monday after raiding her business called Soundz, along Highway 51 North in Covington. Investigators also seized more than $2,000 in cash and 13 electric slot machines. Several others who were allegedly playing at the machines at the time of the raid, were detained, but were later released pending the outcome of the investigation. Mathis will return to court on September 20.
