Shelby County Court Clerk Suspended
General sessions court judges in Shelby County have suspended Court Clerk Otis Jackson, who has been indicted on felony misconduct charges.
The 15 judges of the sessions courts met last Friday and all but three of them voted to suspend Jackson for 60 days with pay, effective Friday, according to The Commercial Appeal
Jackson was indicted last month on four misconduct charges. Prosecutors maintain Jackson coerced employees of the clerk’s office into contributing to his 2010 re-election campaign.
He will continue to receive his $106,000 annual salary while on suspension.
Jackson is free on bond and scheduled for arraignment later in the month. After his indictment, he told reporters he would continue to serve the citizens of Shelby County.
