County Commissioners Decide on Lambuth Funds

Madison County commissioners met late, Thursday afternoon to vote on contributing a portion of funds need to purchase the Lambuth campus. In a special called meeting, the commission approved contributing $2 million in funds and $1 million from West Tennessee Healthcare in a vote of 19 to 5. The move brings the total to nearly $8 million towards the purchase. Leaders said, this final funding hurdle paves the way for the University of Memphis to launch a satellite campus in Jackson just in time for the start of fall classes. “I really believe that as time goes on, the folks in Madison County will see that this is one of the best decisions we have made in many years,” said Madison County Mayor Jimmy Harris. The other stake holders in the deal, the city of Jackson and Jackson Energy Authority voted recently to make contributions towards the purchase of the Lambuth campus.
