Heat Blamed For Memphis Deaths
Memphis police believe the hot weather contributed to the death of a police officer and the heat might be linked to the death of a city sanitation worker.
Officer Anthony Rahming became ill while on duty Wednesday evening and went home. The 48-year-old policeman was pronounced dead at a hospital around 5 a.m. Thursday.
Police Director Toney Armstrong says the department thinks the heat contributed to Rahming’s death, according to The Commercial Appeal
Longtime sanitation truck driver Jeardean Dean Johnson was found dead in his home Thursday morning. Utilities were not turned on at Johnson’s apartment.
The National Weather Service recorded a record 106 degrees at Memphis on Wednesday afternoon and 97 degrees on Thursday.
