Residents Fight Bolivar Police Chief Firing
A forum held by leaders with Bolivar’s NAACP gave residents upset about recent firing of former Bolivar Police Chief Bill Irons, a chance to share their opinion on why he should still be serving community members. More than 50 people attended the 90 minute meeting at the National Guard Armory, Thursday night. Organizers decided to have the forum when public comments were denied at the city council meeting early this week. Although the turnout was not what they had hoped for, those who did attend could still make statements or ask questions. ABC 7 Eyewitness News spoke with former Police Chief Irons on the community’s response. “Community support has been outstanding,” said Bill Irons, former Bolivar Police Chief. “I haven’t cried a moment about the termination, but the support of the community has brought a couple of tears to my eyes. It’s wonderful.” Irons will appear before a three-member personnel board to appeal his termination Monday afternoon at 5.
