Laughter, hugs, and even a “Sweden” hat were shared Friday afternoon as members of The Cadillac Band filtered into the International Rockabilly Hall of Fame all the way from across the Atlantic. “It was important to get back here and show the respect we have for this music,” said drummer Ulf Nilsson. They are not the only ones traveling. Bands and fans flew in from Canada and Brazil. Organizers said rockabilly style music reaches millions around the world. “Probably because of Carl Perkins’ relationship to The Beatles,” said International Rockabilly Hall of Fame curator Henry Harrison. “That friendship spread throughout Europe, and The Beatles have spread it around the world. The songs that Carl has written and performed around the world brings a focus to Jackson, Tennessee” Now, The Cadillac Band brings a focus to Jackson. “We’re doing the best we can to spread it out and we are talking about Rockabilly Hall of Music and Rockabilly Hall of Fame,” said Nilsson. Whatever show we have in Sweden, and we tell people, ‘If you’re going to America, visit Jackson!'” Harrison said the music is sure to make listeners feel good. “It’s a happy music, it’s one that makes you tap your toes, snap your fingers and want to dance,” Harrison said. “Brenda Lee said, ‘It’s the happiest of all music, it will endure forever.'” Festivities begin at 7, Friday and Saturday night at the International Rockabilly Hall of Fame, and music plays until Midnight each night. Tickets are $10 for Friday and $15 for Saturday.
