Man Nearly Beaten to Death, Police Search for Clues
“I said my God who is this guy? This guy is in bad shape,” said Eugene Edmaiston. But the man Edmaiston saw was actually his brother, Arthur Edmaiston, 64, of Obion County. “Well his face is swollen and they are waiting for the swelling to go down. They’re going to do some reconstruction on his face,” added Eugene. On Friday, deputies said Arthur was at his home just outside Union City when he heard a loud knock on the door and saw a female demanding he open it. “He said instantly he was attacked. There was a female and male subject. He was hit and knocked down, and the male subject got on top of him and began hitting him in the face and the head,” said Chief Deputy Kent Treece of the Obion County Sheriff’s Department. After the attack, deputies said Arthur wrapped his head in towels and took a nap. When he woke up, he walked outside, nearly collapsing until a neighbor scooped him up.Officials said Arthur was able to give them details about the attack. That is until he was put on a ventilator on Saturday. “Due to the injuries the deputies only had a brief conversation with him, after the doctors got through treating what they could,” added Chief Deputy Treece. The victim was able to tell deputies a man and a woman attacked him. At the time, he did not know how old they could have been or their ethnicity. Arthur also told everyone just what he lost in the attack. Five dollar bills. “Try to beat somebody to death for five stinking dollars,” asked Eugene.
