Report Critical Of Chattanooga Zoo

A private consulting report calls for improved organization at the Chattanooga Zoo to create better accountability and efficiency after the deaths of 10 animals last winter.

The report was presented to the Chattanooga City Council on Tuesday by consultant David Walsh of Schultz & Williams, the Times Free Press reported

The report listed the first priority as investing in the zoo’s staff by adding key positions, clearly defining roles and formulating zoo-wide policies and procedures.

Darde Long, the zoo’s executive director, said the study is a road map for improvement that must now be applied.

The newspaper found that 10 animals died in a matter of weeks at the zoo, including tortoises, monkeys, deer and snow leopard cubs.
