Survivorship Conference

Saturday marked the start of the first annual ‘Beyond the C’ conference. It is a conference held by the Kirkland Cancer Center and designed to empower those who have had a battle with cancer and survived. “If you are diagnosed with cancer today, it’s very encouraging to you to get to know and talk to a cancer survivor that is 20 to 25 years past their cancer diagnosis… that maybe had a similar type of cancer that you did,” said Executive Director of Kirkland Cancer Center, Gina Myrazle. While its main purpose was to motivate survivors, attendees received helpful information on wading through Medicare and TennCare, child rearing, long-term treatment and nutrition and fitness. It also included sessions for the family members of survivors. Organizers said overall the conference was designed to uplift survivors as they continue their journey.
