Lane Oldest Graduate Dies

The Lane College family said goodbye to its oldest graduate. According to a news release from the college, Mrs. Etta Stinson Williamson died early Tuesday in Jackson. She was 106 year old. Mrs. Williamson was born in Holly Springs, Mississippi. Her family moved to Jackson, Tennessee when she was a few months old. Williamson and her family joined Lane Tabernacle CME Church where she was active on several boards. Internationally, she was on of the oldest members of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority. Mrs. Williamson was a member of the Class of 1928 and spent 48 years educating first graders and North Jackson and Lincoln Elementary Schools. She was also Lane President Wesley McClure’s 1st grade teacher. In April 2008, Mrs. Williamson attended the commencement convocation at Oman Arena and personally received her 80th year Diploma Stephenson and Shaw Funeral Home is handling the services.
