Obion Co. Red Cross Gets New Name

When the Goodyear Tire plant in Union County closed its doors recently, so did the area Red Cross Chapter, but the humanitarian organization is back, with the same mission and a new name. The name of the new organization is Northwest Tennessee Disaster Services. With the exception of CPR training, it will offer the same services , such as disaster assistance, help for fire victims and a food pantry. The Red Cross chapter in Obion County closed last month when they lost 70 percent of their funding, which came from the local United Way, with 90 percent of those donations made possible by the Union City Goodyear plant.
