In what authorities are calling a ‘significant’ arrest, Alvin “A.J.” Waller Jr, 34, now faces seven counts of aggravated rape and one count of especially aggravated kidnapping. These charges come in addition to a count of first degree murder. Waller made his first appearance, Monday morning in Madison County General Sessions Court. His attorney waived his right to a formal reading of the charges, and set a new court appearance for September 1. Madison County Sheriff David Woolfork said Waller has multiple victims, and more unreported cases are possible. Sheriff Woolfork asked any alleged victims, or persons with information, to report information to the sheriff’s department. Authorities in Memphis are also looking into this case. Sheriff Woolfork said Waller has known ties to the Shelby County area, and several similar cases there are being investigated. Waller is also suspected in at least one kidnapping and a rape in Jackson. Officers said the attack happened and May 15, as a 21-year-old woman walked along Dr. F.E. Wright Drive near Wright Industrial Cove. She told police a four-door car with two men pulled up besides her and at gunpoint, one of them forced her into the car. She said in the same spot where Waller is accused of raping a woman earlier this month, she was repeatedly raped by one man while the other held her at gunpoint. “There was a similar description and just his m.o. of how this person operated. And that made us feel like we were dealing with the same person,” said Lt. Tyreece Miller of the Jackson Police Department. “I believe in our investigation, it appears to be a crime of opportunity. She was walking alone it was 2 in the morning, there were no witnesses around and they saw an opportunity, so they forced her into a car and raped her.” Waller faces one count of especially aggravated kidnapping and three counts of aggravated rape in the May attack. He is due back in court on September 1. For now, he remains jailed in lieu of $750,000 bond. Investigators are still looking for the other man in the car with Waller during the May 15 attack. He is described as a dark-complected black man in his early 20’s with gold teeth and a tattoo on his neck.
