On Friday, the Golden Tide of Peabody High School in Trenton opened its 2011 football season in grand fashion. No longer will the team play under the lights of a field at the elementary school. Friday, the team hosted its inaugural game at the new Walter Kilzer Stadium against the Hungtindon Mustangs. The $2.5 million stadium also includes a softball and soccer field. It is branded with a gold “P” in the midst of black stadium seating and serves as a constant reminder of football coaching legend Walter Kilzer, who helped shape the Peabody program. “He just had a lot of success here,” said Principal Tim Haney of Peabody High School. “He did a lot of positive things and was a positive influence in a lot of young people’s lives.” Haney calls the naming of the stadium a fitting tribute to Kilzer. Coach Kilzer passed away in September of 2008, after spending decades on the sidelines. Friday night’s game kicks off at 7:30 p.m. with pre-game festivities starting at 7:05 p.m.
