Caywood Students Dress Up for Reading
Children usually have to wait until Halloween before they get a chance to wear a costume to school, but Friday was an exception in Lexington. Students at Caywood Elementary School were part of the Lexington School System’s first ever system-wide Reading Kick-Off Initiative and students dressing as their favorite character was encouraged. The campaign aims at instilling a love of reading at a young age. “We want students to know that reading is fun and exciting, said Gerrianne Mayfield, a reading coach. “So letting them choose their own character made it even more exciting for them.” As you can see the teachers got into the spirit, too, using their own character to encourage their students in a new way.
