Health Fair to Feature Drug Take Back Initiative
If you are like many people, you have a lot of unused and unwanted prescription drugs at home. Organizers of this weekend’s West Tennessee Health Fair said you can bring them to the fair for proper disposal. West Tennessee Health Care is partnering with the Jackson Police Department to collect the drug during the 32nd Annual Event. Police said it helps prevent the drugs for getting into the groundwater and into the wrong hands. “The biggest part is keeping them off the street, keeping them out of the hands of people who don’t need them, those who abuse them,” said Investigator Byron Maxedon of the Jackson Police Department. “Eliminating that fact from getting them out of the cabinets and putting them in a safe place.” The Drug Take Back will take place during the health fair, which will be from 8 a.m. to 12 Noon, Saturday at the Carl Perkins Civic Center. In addition, there will be free health screening and risk assessments for everyone.
