KY Lawmaker Pushes For Casino Vote
A Republican lawmaker is proposing to introduce legislation next year that would call for county-level elections to determine whether casinos should be permitted.
State Rep. Michael Nemes of Louisville filed an early version of his proposal with the Legislative Research Commission on Wednesday.
Gambling has been a huge issue in Kentucky in recent years.
Gov. Steve Beshear asked lawmakers early in his tenure to approve legislation calling for a constitutional amendment to allow casinos to open in the state. That proposal was later dropped in favor of another that would have allowed the state’s racetracks to install slot machines.
All such measures have died without being brought up for votes in the full House or Senate.
