New JPD Program to Stop Shoplifters
If you plan to shoplift in Jackson, you should take note. Jackson and surrounding police departments may catch you thorough a new program promoting cooperation. According to leaders of the Jackson Police Department, they are inviting law enforcement officers and retail store management to a meeting as the JPD rolls out the Jackson Area Law Enforcement Retailer Teams, or J-ALERT program. The key to the program is a stronger working relationship between law enforcement and retailers. The program is designed to routinely share information and trends to help identify suspects to commit retail theft and related crimes. The ALERT program concept originated in 2005 with the Shelby County Sheriff’s Department and a number of major retailers who have formed similar groups across the nation. If you would like additional information on the program scheduled for Thursday in Jackson, contact the Jackson Police Department at (731) 425-8400.
