African-American Chamber of Commerce Hosts 1st Celebrity Golf Tourney

Golf lovers came together, Tuesday afternoon for a little glitz and glam on the greens and it was all for a good cause. The Jackson-Madison County African-American Chamber hosted its first annual Celebrity Golf Classic at Bent Tree Golf Course. Over 12 dozen teams participated in the 18 hole event raising thousands of dollars for the Chamber’s year-round Youth Development Program “Follow Me into Business.” Top golfers received awards, but organizers said the children were the biggest winners. “We take youth, stating at age 10 through 17 and teach them about business and community leaders,” said Clarence Boone, president of the African-American Chamber of Commerce. “We ask them to just pattern their lives after the people we bringing today.” Organizers of the golf tournament said they hope to make it an annual event.
