The family of the Hardin County deputy seriously injured from a traffic stop over a month ago is now speaking out about his condition. Since Deputy Robert Jaggars has been in the hospital, in addition to his head injuries, he has been diagnosed with muscle invasive bladder cancer. On August 18, Deputy Jaggars suffered severe head injuries while making a routine traffic stop. He tried to arrest then Antwan Patterson, 21, for allegedly driving drunk. But when he went to handcuff him, Jaggars was knocked to the ground, fracturing his skull. Those injuries have kept him in the hospital to this day. “Every time I go to the hospital, he says, ‘Son, take me home,'” Jaggars’ grandson Lynn Ingle said. “I can’t. Doctors have to make sure you get well.” Ingle said he does not know if Jaggars will go back to work once he recovers, but regardless, he wants to. “He’s strong. He’s got a strong heart, will power,” Ingle said. “He’s worked his entire life just up until recently. He’s worked two to three jobs. He’s always on the go.” Jaggars’ friends and family are planning a benefit bike ride for him Saturday, October 8. They are hoping to raise money to help pay for hospital bills. The bike ride will start at the McNairy County Justice Center at 10 a.m., and will end with auctions at the Selmer Community Center.
