Kilgore Explosion Victim; Erika Jarrett Dies
Thursday was the end of a long, hard battle for a West Tennessee woman who was severely burned in last year’s explosion and fire at Kilgore Flares in Toone. Erika Jarrett’s family says she passed away early Thursday morning, and they arrived at the hospital shortly after. Relatives say she was admitted six weeks ago.. “She’s a fighter, she was a fighter. She fought a good fight. Erika was a strong young lady. She had a strong will, but I’m a firm believer that even a fighter gets tired,” said Erika’s uncle, Rev. Ernest Polk. Jarrett was burned over 80 percent of her body in the fire and had been back and forth to the hospital numerous times since last year’s explosion in Toone. She was among three people severely burned in last years fire; one of whom was her cousin. Kilgore also confirmed Jarrett’s passing in a statement released Thursday. In part it said, “Our thoughts and prayers are with her husband, children, mother, and her entire family. Our community is very close and this loss has deeply affected us all.”
