If you drive through Chester County this weekend, you may catch a whiff of the smoke from their annual barbeque festival. The thirty-fourth annual festival got underway in downtown Henderson, featuring live music, a petting zoo for the kids, and of course – some good old fashion barbeque. The three day festival is an annual fundraiser for the Chester County Chamber of Commerce. Organizers say all of the event is thanks to volunteer work, and that it is a huge economic bonus for the area. “People come to the festival and spend their day and then eat dinner somewhere and shop in our little unique stores like LaVon’s Timeless Treasures or Merle Norman downtown and just enjoy the day downtown,” said Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Emily Johnson. Leaders are expecting about 12,000 people all looking for some famous Chester County barbecue. “I’ve never seen people love barbecue as much as the do in Chester County,” said pit master Chris Siler. “This place has earned the barbecue capital of the world. If some people can argue if it started here or not – well if it didn’t start here they sure love it here more than they do anywhere else.” The Chester County Barbecue Festival continues through Saturday.
