Building Owner Accused Of Duping Potential Tenant
A Jackson woman who wanted to open a new business in midtown said a building owner took her $1,000 check and gave nothing back in return. Fay and William Anderson thought they would make a little “dough,” opening a bakery. “We are coming into a situation where we could provide excellent desserts for the city, ” said Fay Anderson. The Andersons said on August 30 they gave a $1,000 check to Ray Reams, the landlord of the property at 935 Campbell Street. They thought Reams would fix a hole in the wall that was much “bigger than a doughnut.” They were wrong. “We were had, we are out $1,000, $1,000 that we worked hard for, ” said William Anderson. The icing on the cake, the Andersons said that Jackson Energy Authority would not turn the electricity on at the address due to unpaid bills by Ray Reams. “JEA has told us that as long as his name is on this building there is no way they are going to turn the lights on. He owes so much money,” said Fay Anderson. It is safe to say they will not be making any tasty desserts for Ray Reams anytime soon. “Ray, Ray, you know man you were wrong. You were wrong on this one and we came to you in good faith. You talked about how you love the Lord and how God has been blessing you, ” said William Anderson. They say their dream has not been stolen completely. Later this month they plan to open their bakery, Baby Cakes, at a downtown location.
