Several changes are taking place in the city of Lexington, and it all gets underway with the leadership of a new mayor. Tim Pierce was sworn-in as mayor, Monday morning at city hall in front of a crowded room. Some of the things he takes on are the new 42 cent tax increase, a new law allowing packaged liquor stores in the city limits, and complicated budget issues. Within the tight budget is a large cut in industrial development, which will hinder leaders’ efforts to move the city forward and bring in new jobs. However, Mayor Pierce says that is something he hopes to fix during his term. “We’re going to make some cuts in other departments. We’re probably going to do a restructure of the city and move some of that money back into the I.D. section so we can be more job friendly,” said Pierce. Also newly sworn in today was school board member David White, and Alderman Jack Johnson.
