Lebanon Plans New Events Center

City officials in Lebanon announced a proposal to build a $40 million arena and events center that would be city owned and funded through new tax revenues.

Mayor Philip Craighead said Wednesday that the proposed Cumberland Center would include 1.5 million square feet of retail and office space and taxes revenues from the site would go to building a 4,500-seat arena to draw a minor league hockey team.

The Tennessean reported that the retail development could be designated as an entertainment district and all taxes would go to a local board that would oversee construction.

President and CEO of the Central Hockey League Rick Kozuback said he was committed to bringing a new franchise to Lebanon if the project shows progress.
