Following the arrest of UT Martin Instructor Brent Cox last week, students and faculty alike are having to make some adjustments. Officials with the university say Cox has been placed on administrative leave and all five of his history classes have been taken over by other faculty members. Although when Cox was hired in 2003 the university did a reference check on him, there was no drug test or background check performed. Officials also say the arrest was very unexpected and they’ve never had any problems with Cox in the past. “He is an accessible faculty member. He understands the culture here. He’s always been willing to work with students with issues after class on his own time. He’s volunteered to be a judge of student competitions on campus,” said UT Martin Provost and Vice Chancellor Dr. Jerald Ogg Jr. According to Dr. Ogg, Cox has voluntarily been involved with working with the history department to help other teachers continue his classes.
